Automotive GPS

GPS for cars and trucks

Automotive GPS systems have seen an explosive rise in use recently as cheap models have begun to enter the market. These car GPS systems also have the benefit of auto navigation software, which allows the GPS to provide verbal direction to a driver, and many of the more recent models come with features such as mp3 storage and playback.

Automotive GPS Systems

The technology of GPS receivers has greatly advanced in the past couple of decades, and one of the most convenient improvements has been the introduction of portable automotive GPS. The original GPS units were bulky and often required fixed installation into the unit they were operating in. With multiple-vehicle households becoming increasingly common, equipping the family cars with GPS could be a costly proposition. The introduction of portable technology, as well as a fall in GPS prices (some are as low as $100) has made these units affordable for almost any household.

The interfaces of automotive GPS systems are also extremely user-friendly. Many of them are sold with a road map of North America so you can easily navigate anywhere you wish to go. Touch-screen technology means that you’ll no longer have to fight with obscure buttons and complicated menus and is now common to most GPS units. Some of the more expensive and advanced models even employ voice recognition technology so you can operate them while driving without taking your attention off the road. The ease of use, multitude of features and low price of modern GPS mean you should never have to run the risk of getting lost ever again.

Automotive GPS Navigation Systems

The simplest navigation systems are map displays with a marker showing your current location. These systems are less than ideal since the last thing anyone wants is for drivers to be looking away from the road. This has lead to the introduction of auto navigation into car and truck GPS.

Auto navigation is a very elegant tool that allows you to simply enter the address you would like to arrive at and let the GPS figure out the best route for you to take. Some of the better GPS providers will actually have their systems factor in such items as construction and traffic at certain times of the day to make sure you can reach your destination in the quickest time possible. The GPS unit will then provide step-by-step instructions both visually and verbally to help you reach your desired destination. If you happen to miss your turn, not to worry; the GPS will notify and reroute you to get you back on track to where you need to go.

Different voice downloads have also become available so you can find one that is pleasant to listen to and easy to understand.
